Jack G. Schalk
Age 74, of Stratford passed away at Ministry Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield on Saturday, June 6, 2015.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11AM on Thursday, June 11, 2015 at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Rozellville. The Rev. John Robert Alphonse will officiate. Music will be provided by St. Andrew’s Choir. Following services, military rites will be conducted by Stratford Memorial Post 6352. Committal services will be held at a later date. Family and friends are invited to gather on Thursday at the church in Rozellville from 9AM until time of services.
Jack was born December 10, 1940 in Marshfield, son of the late William and June (Hefko) Schalk. After graduation he proudly served his county in the United State Army from 1959 until his honorable discharge in 1962. Jack was united in marriage to Carol Mroczenski at St. John’s Catholic Church in Edgar on November 26, 1966. Jack and Carol raised two wonderful sons.
He instilled in his children the motto he lived by, “work to live don’t live to work.” Jack worked during the week in maintenance at Land O’ Lakes of Spencer and spent his weekends playing hard with his family. He loved to spend the days in the outdoors enjoying the wildlife, boating, fishing and hunting. Fishing trips to Canada with his family were a highlight of his year. Jack and his family share fond memories of the three week river adventure they took on their camper boat putting in at LaCrosse and ending their adventure in Chattanooga, TN learning new skills and making friends along the way. Jack’s workshop was always open to anyone who needed help fixing or repairing anything. If there was an item that was particularly difficult to put back together he would say “someone put it together to begin with it has to go back together somehow.”
Jack’s faith was very important to him. He was a member of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Rozellville.
He is lovingly survived by his wife of 48 years, Carol of Stratford; his two sons: Jack (Karen) Schalk Jr. of Chattanooga, TN and Bill (Rhonda) Schalk of Evansville, TN; a brother Ted (Shirley) Schalk of Chattanooga, TN and a sister-in-law Mary Schalk of Wausau. Jack is further survived by three grandchildren: Christi (Merrick) Walker of Chattanooga, TN and Jason and John Schalk of Evansville, TN; three great-grandchildren: Kynsie, Dean and Elle of Chattanooga, TN along with many other relatives and friends.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Robert and Conrad.
