Of Spencer was welcomed into the loving arms of her Lord while surrounded by her children in the early morning of Friday, September 25, 2015, at Ministry Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield.
Funeral services will be held at 11am on Tuesday, September 29, 2015, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spencer with Rev David DePaoli officiating. Burial will follow in West Spencer Cemetery in the Town of Sherman, Clark County. Family and friends are invited to gather on Monday at Life Tributes Funeral Home in Spencer from 4pm to 8pm and again on Tuesday at the church from 9:30am until the time of service. The honor of pallbearer belongs to Gregg Randow, James Kommer, Steve Jarchow, Zachary Zinsli, Matt Nelson and Mike Nelson.
Erma (Stargardt) Kommer was born on August 1, 1919. She was the daughter of Fred and Augusta (Schultz) Stargardt. After graduating from Spencer High School in 1936, she attended and later graduated from Marathon County Normal Teaching School. Erma taught students in a one room schoolhouse in Brokaw and later taught in the Spencer area. Erma continued her teaching by helping all of us stay on the right path and showing us unconditional love and to see the best in people.
Erma married Norman Kommer on June 1, 1940 in Trinity Lutheran Church in Spencer. They celebrated many anniversaries together until Norman’s passing on March 18, 2009. In their early married life they farmed the Kommer Farm on Highway 13 until moving to the Village of Spencer. Erma was then employed by Land O’ Lakes until her retirement in 1985.
Erma’s hobbies included crafts, tending to her flower gardens, playing cards with friends and dancing with her husband Norman. Erma was strong in her Faith and a lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she served on the Ladies Aid.
Erma leaves behind a legacy of 5 children, 18 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren (with #11 on the way). Daughter Jayne (Thomas) Gibbs of Marshfield, Wisconsin with grandchildren Sheri (Chuck) Woehrle; Loriann (Scott) Weister with great-grandchildren Seth, Bethany, Tyson and Thane. Seth (Laynette) blessed her with great-great grandchildren Semiyhan, Desiah, Skiahlar, Delyhan, Siahlas and a baby boy on the way. Connie (Gregg) with great-grandchildren Carter and Cody.
Son, Norm “Buddy” (Ginny) of Marshfield, Wisconsin with grandchildren James (Amy) Kommer; Debbie (Jeff) Klabunde; Robin (Steve) Meyer; Tammi (Joe) Schwabe; Jonalee (Chris) Buckle. James blessed her with great-grandchildren Tyler (finance Leslie) and Tate (Katie) and Abby. Debbie blessed her with great-grandchildren Troy (Bethany) and Trevor (Ashley). Robin blessed her with great-grandchildren Alexis, Ashley and Bailey; Tammi blessed her with great-grandchildren Mikayla, Makenzie, Max and Maggie. Jonalee blessed her with great-grandchildren Jenna, Sadie, Marianna and Hayden.
Daughter Judi with grandchildren Lisa (Steve) Jarchow, Lynn Cichon, Angel LaSee (Randy Smazal) and April (Rod) Smazal. Steve blessed her with great grandchildren Tana (Jason) Luedtke and Natasha Jarchow (Jake). Lynn blessed her with great grandchildren Cord Andrew, Torri Ange (Korey) and Cortney Cichon. Randy blessed her with great-grandchildren James, Connor and Dalton Smazal. Rod blessed her with great-grandchildren Brandi; April blessed her with great-grandchildren Kylie and Tristen Smazal. Cord blessed her with great-great grandchildren Mady & Bryn. Natasha blessed her with great-great grandchild Norlan. Tana blessed her with great-great grandchildren Jaylee and Jazlyn.
Daughter, Marie (Steve) Zinsli of Aurora, Illinois with grandchildren Zachary (Wendy) Zinsli, Joe Zinsli, Jacob (finance Dani) Zinsli, and Caleb (Megan) Zinsli. Zach blessed her with great-grandchildren Brandon, Zoey and Summer.
Daughter, Gayle (Tom) Nelson of Spencer, Wisconsin with grandchildren Matt (Jennie) Nelson and Mike (Lisa) Nelson. Matt blessed her with great-grandchildren Camryn and Hadley. Mike blessed her with great-grandchild Jordan.
Erma also leaves behind dear friends Irene Luepke and Delores Wilson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 68 years, Norman; two infant sons Walter and John; five sisters Francisca (Sis) Sauerbrei, Pauline Stargardt, Ruth Boers, Bernadine Gauger and Berniece Gauger, three brothers William, Harold & Carl (who both died in infancy).
