Obituary of Allen J. Schmidt

Allen J. Schmidt Age 79, of Wausau, passed away on Saturday, November 7th at the Miller Alternative Care in Marshfield. His funeral service will be held at 11AM on Thursday, November 12, 2015 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spencer with Rev. David DePaoli officiating. Burial will follow in West Spencer Cemetery with full military honors being conducted. Family and friends are invited to gather on Wednesday from 4PM until 7PM at Life Tributes Funeral Home in Spencer and again on Thursday at the church from 9:30AM until time of service. Allen was born July 2, 1936 to Ervin and Rose (Mijolevic) Schmidt in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He graduated from Waterford High School in 1954. Upon graduation he entered the U.S. Navy, retiring as a Lieutenant in 1980. Following his military career, he received an Associate Degree from Nicolet College in Rhinelander and later an Associate Degree from North Central Technical College in Wausau. He married Shirley Bargander on November 24, 1984. He was employed and retired from Marathon Electric in 2001. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, Packer and Badger games, NASCAR racing and traveling. Allen was a lifetime member of the United States Submarine Veterans, Inc. (USSVI). In addition to his wife Shirley, he is survived by his children: Ervin Schmidt and Nadine Hellwig and grandchildren: Alexandria and Chayne Hellwig, all of Groton, Connecticut. He is also survived by his brothers: Richard (Sharon) and Shawn (Dawn) of Crandon, Wisconsin as well as his nieces and nephews. Allen was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Janet Sutherland, a niece Debra Schultz and a nephew Steve Huelskamp.
