Obituary of Marvin J. Hardinger

Marvin J. Hardinger age 87, of Marshfield, died peacefully on Monday, December 21, 2015 at Miller Alternative Care of Marshfield.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM on Monday, December 28, 2015 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Marshfield. Rev. Savarimuthu Selvaraj will be the celebrant with Rev. Samuel Martin, Rev. Peter Manickam, Rev. Francis Xavier concelebrating. Amy Gachnang will be the organist and vocalist. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery with full military rites conducted by the American Legion Post 54 of Marshfield. Family and friends are invited to gather on Sunday at Sacred Heart Church in Marshfield from 4 PM until 7 PM and again on Monday at the church from 10 AM until time of service. A rosary service conducted by the Father John Eisen Council of the Knights of Columbus will be held at 6:30 PM on Sunday at the church. The honor of pallbearer for Marvin belongs to: Ron, Tom, Jon, and Taylor Hardinger, Ray Walgenbach and Bill Weigel.
Marvin was born March 7, 1928 in the Township of McMillan, the son of John and Regina (Felton) Hardinger. He attended Dodge County School in the town of McMillan and St. John’s Catholic School in Marshfield. Marvin served his country in the United State Army in Germany as a truck operator from 1950 until his honorable discharge in 1952. On September 1, 1955 he was united in marriage to the former Agnes McKenna at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Loyal. Marvin and Agnes owned and operated a dairy farm where they raised their six children. In addition to farming, Marvin worked full time at the Marshfield Clinic in the Maintenance Department for 34 years. He also worked part-time at the former Skelly Gas Station located on Central Avenue, drove school bus for the Jelco Company, drove for the Glendenning Trucking Company, worked at Bauer’s Feed Mill and worked with Agnes as Custodians for the Knights of Columbus Hall all in Marshfield. He worked very hard to support his family.
Marvin was a lifelong member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1799 both in Marshfield. He enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, having coffee with friends at Equity Livestock in Stratford, playing bingo, watching westerns, attending area dances with his wife Agnes, playing cards and cheering on the Packers.
Survivors include his wife Agnes of Marshfield, his children: Ann (Ray) Walgenbach, Barbara Hardinger, Rita (Bill) Weigel, Ron Hardinger and Mark Hardinger all of Marshfield and Marlin Hardinger of Washington D.C; Five grandchildren: Lee Cummings, Jon, Taylor and Kayla Hardinger, and Jacob Strey and two great grandchildren: Mason and Makylyn Cummings. Marvin is further survived by his two sisters: Pat (Bill) Ascher of Winnebago, IL and Carol Kennedy of Spencer and his two brothers: Chuck (Karmen) Hardinger and Jon Hardinger, both of Marshfield, along with many other relatives and friends.
Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Marlene and two brothers Donald and Floyd.
Memorials in Marvin’s name are appreciated in lieu of flowers. The family will name a memorial at a later date.
