Berdine F. Schade,
Age 78, of Colby, passed away in the Palliative Care Unit at Ministry Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield on Wednesday, September 5, 2012.
Her funeral service will take place at 11AM on Saturday, September 8, 2012 at Zion Lutheran Church in Colby. The Rev. Mark Neumann will officiate. Burial will follow in Colby Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be on Saturday at the church in Colby from 9AM until time of services. Berdine’s pallbearers include Kevin Martens, Jeremy, Chad and Damian Kilty, Jesse and Josh Sternitzky.

Berdine was born Feb. 19, 1934 in the town of Brighton in Marathon County, daughter of the late Elmer and Adeline (Verch) Gripentrog. She attended Brighton Country School. She married Thearn Sternitzky. They later divorced. Her second marriage was to Herman Schade. He preceded her in death. Berdine was a dedicated caregiver in the healthcare field at the Colonial Center in Colby for over 20 years. Even after retirement for the Colonial Center, she continued to provide care and assistance to those in need.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Colby.
Hobbies included crocheting, working outside around her flowers, jigsaw puzzles, attending fairs and concerts, and was a dedicated Willie Nelson fan. Berdine was a woman of great faith who loved caring for people and spending time with her family and grandkids and all around just loved life and all its beauty.
Survivors include her children: Nancy (Roger) Martens of Marshfield; Linda (Joey) Kilty of Unity; Jenelle (Ruth) Sternitzky of Cannon Falls, MN; Randy (Joleen) Schade of Colby; her grandchildren: Kevin Martens, Jeremy Kilty, Candie Meskill, Chad Kilty, Jesse Sternitzky, Josh Sternitzky and Alyssa Schade; a sister Carol (Fritz) Boge of Medford. She is further survived by great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Berdine was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Herman, and one brother Harold Gripentrog.
