Dever E. Green
Age 98, of Loyal, passed away Monday, January 13, 2014 at Ministry Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield with family at his bedside.
A funeral service will be held at 11AM on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at Loyal United Methodist Church with Pastor Patsy L. Roe officiating. Burial will follow in West Spencer Cemetery in the town of Sherman with military honors conducted by the American Legion Post 175 of Loyal. A visitation will be held on Friday at the church in Loyal from 4PM until 7PM and again on Saturday at the church from 10AM until time of services. Serving as pallbearers will be Bill and Michael Green, Richard and Rick Sinette, Frank Procopinski and Chris Jacob.
Dever was born December 28, 1915 in a log shanty near Stanley, the son of William and Martha (Davis) Green. He attended both Otter Creek and Popple Hill Country Schools near Stanley. He worked on the family farm as well as other farms in the area. At age 17, he and the family moved to Thorp until he entered the United States Army Air Corp at age 21. Dever proudly served his country during World War II while overseas in North Africa, Sicily and India until his honorable discharge in 1945. He later married Freda Green on November 10, 1947 in Pine City, MN. She survives. After that they moved to Loyal where they owned and operated a dairy farm from 1947 until 1981. Retired from farming but not retired from working Dever then worked out for Roth Manufacturing and E-Z Camper. They later moved to Rozellville in 1991. Dever later retired and they both moved to the Otter Lake area for a period of time before returning to Loyal where he and Freda had resided until the present.
His hobbies included solving crossword puzzles, being a greeter at The High Ground in Neillsville, delivering Meals On Wheels, and driving shuttle bus for Marshfield Clinic and spending time at Otter Lake. His greatest love was the 39 years of square dancing with his wife and dance partner, Freda.
Memberships included Loyal United Methodist Church, Circle 8 Square Dance Club, Clark Co. Aging and Nutrition Program and Loyal American Legion Post 175.
Survivors include his wife Freda Green of Loyal; one son Leonard (Barbara) Green of Mosinee; one daughter Alice (Ron) Krause of Woodstock, IL; five grandchildren: Virginia, Theresa, Tina, Billy and Michael; eight great grandchildren: Brandon, Christina, Kevin, Justin, Michael, Corben, Halie, Owynn, Jacob and Nick along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Dever was preceded in death by his parents; a son Dale; a daughter Diane; two sisters: Iola Sinette and Mary Procopinski and one brother in infancy.
