Carl L. Olson
Age 75, of the Township of McMillian, passed away on Monday March 4, 2013 at Three Oaks Golden Living Center in Marshfield.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2PM on Sunday, March 10, 2013 at Life Tributes Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Spencer. Rev. James J. Logan will officiate. Private committal services will be held at a later date. The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday at the funeral home in Spencer from 12:30PM until time of services.
Carl was born October 1, 1937 in Trempealeau County, the son of the late Carl and May (Baldwin) Olson. He graduated from Galesville Etric High School where he was an officer of the senior class and was very involved in the FFA chapter. After graduation he married Carole Severson, they raised three children: Michael (Mary) Olson, Kathy Petrovi and Terri (Dan) Lenz. He and Carol later divorced and he married Dorothy Stubfors on September 26, 1988 and gained a step-daughter, Rachel (Erin) Strey.
Lyman farmed the majority of his life, for a short time he was co-owner of Town and Country Floor Mart of Marshfield, but returned to his passion of farming and bought the Rueben and Dehlia Luchterhand farm in the Town of McMillan, where he farmed until Alzheimer’s controlled his life. While farming Lyman was the principal snow removal operator at the Marshfield Airport for 20 plus years.
Lyman had his private pilot’s license which he learned while in Lacrosse. He enjoyed giving the moms and grandmas short flights on Mother’s Day, sponsored by the Lacrosse Club. When moving to Marshfield he belonged to the Marshfield Flying Club and enjoyed many years of taking trips and Sunday brunches with family and friends. When he was diagnosed with diabetes and lost his medical it was hard on him to give up that too. Later the Marshfield Flying Club disbanded and the plane was sold.
Lyman was a man who loved life, buying equipment and distance never stopped him from looking for “A Great Deal.” He always took good care of his equipment and taught his children the value of money and work ethics. He was great for a joke and helping out a friend.
Survivors include his wife Dorothy of Marshfield, his children: Michael (Mary) Olson of Hustisford; Kathy Petrovic of Miami, Florida; Terri (Dan) Lenz of Neillsville; a step-daughter Rachel (Erin) Strey of Chili; his grandchildren: Amy (Scott) Gundrum of Kewauskum; Jessica (Ryan) Braatz of Houston, Texas; Christopher Olson of Milwaukee; Casey Lenz and fiancé Kyle Swensen of Marshfield and Jake Lenz of Stevens Point; his step-grandchildren: Abby Daul of Chili and Caleb Strey of Chili. He is further survived by a brother Robert (Marleen) Olson of Hubert, North Carolina; a sister Betty Dow of Bangor; six great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
Lyman was preceded in death by his parents Carl Roman and Ella May Olson, and a sister Carla at birth. A brother-in-law Ellsworth Dow and a nephew Darrel Dow.
In lieu of flowers it is our wish for contributions to be given to the Alzheimer’s Association.
The family would to extend a special “Thank You” to the staff of Three Oaks Golden Living Center for all their care and love.
