Arvin was born August 5, 1924 in the town of Hull, Marathon County, son of the late Albert and Anna (Pecher) Apfelbeck. He attended Rusk School, a one room school, until the 7th grade then one year at St. Mary’s Parochial School in Colby. After that he worked alongside his father on the family farm. On June 2, 1962, he married Margaret Hiebl at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Milan. Arvin drove a milk route for a period of time. In 1965 he bought his father-in-law’s dairy farm located in the town of Johnson, Marathon County. Arvin farmed full time with his devoted wife at his side. He retired from farming in 1991 and sold the farm later moving to the village of Dorchester. Retired but not tired Arvin then started working for the Village of Dorchester and worked weekends as a security guard for Hurd Millwork in Medford until his health would not allow.
To those that knew him, Arvin was both a hardworking man and a man of few words. He loved to tinker and fix things on farm machinery. His hobbies included bowling for the local senior citizen league, playing on the St. Thomas Dartball League and playing sheepshead with family and friends.
He is lovingly survived by his wife of over 50 years, Margaret Apfelbeck of Dorchester; three children: Joan (Dan) Grennier of Milwaukee; Jean (Robert) Lounsbrough of Sparta and Thomas (Heidi) Apfelbeck of Medford; five grandchildren: Molly, Danny, Joshua, Megan and Candice; three step-grandchildren: Heidi, Jason and Jeffery; one great granddaughter Olivia and one step-great grandson Hayden; two brothers: James Apfelbeck of Park Falls and Clem Apfelbeck of Mayville along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Arvin was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Anna Apfelbeck, a sister and brother-in-law: Alberta and Marvin Endries and a sister-in-law Rosie Apfelbeck.
