Obituary of Virgil Anthony Folz

Virgil Anthony Folz, 81, of Stratford, passed away on the evening of Thursday, November 3, 2011 at Ministry Saint Joseph’s Hospital with his wife Shirley of 58 years at his bedside.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 A.M. on Monday, November 7, 2011 at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Rozellville. The Rev. Eric Berns will officiate. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery with military rites being conducted by the Stratford VFW Post 6352. Acting as his pallbearers will be Todd and Tim Folz, Dan Weiler, Nathan Thom, Jared Armstrong, Dan Bohn and Kevin Schmidtke. His visitation will be Sunday, November 6, 2011 from 4PM to 8PM at Life Tributes Funeral Home in Spencer and on Monday at the church in Rozellville from 9AM until time of service. A Knights of Columbus Council 1799 rosary service will be held Sunday at 7:30 PM at the funeral home followed by a St. Andrew’s Parish vigil service.
Virgil was born March 8, 1930 in Rozellville, son of the late Joseph and Isabelle (Brost) Folz. He attended St. Andrew’s Parochial school and graduated from Marshfield Senior High. After graduation he worked in Milwaukee later enlisting in the United States Army where he served his country during the Korean War from 1951 to 1952. Following his honorable discharge Virgil married the former Shirley Schmidt on October 20, 1954 at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church. Together they farmed in the town of Day for nearly 58 years. Virgil’s greatest pastime was dancing the polka and the two-step with his wife along with their dancing couples. He was a member of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church and the Stratford VFW Post 5362.
He is lovingly survived by his wife, Shirley, of Stratford; his two sons: Dale (Deborah) Folz and Dean (Julie) Folz both of Marshfield; five granddaughters: Stacy (Nathan) Thom of Rice Lake; Stephanie (fiance Jared Armstrong) Folz of Marshfield; Melissa Folz of Spencer; Tracey (Dan) Bohn of Marshfield and Kari Folz of Spencer. Virgil is further survived by two sisters: Bernice Folz of Minneapolis, MN; Kathleen (Jerry) Caamano of Joliet, IL and one brother Kenneth (Bev) Folz of Stratford along with other relatives and friends.
Virgil was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Victor and Sylvester.
