Obituary of Gerhard E. Lokre

Gerhard E. "Gary" Lokre, 86, died February 4, 2016 in Edinburg, TX with his family by his side. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at 2:30 PM at Faith Lutheran Church in Marshfield. Pastor Gisele Berninghaus will officiate. Family and friends are invited to gather on Saturday at the church in Marshfield from 1PM until time of services. Military honors conducted by the American Legion Post 54 of Marshfield will immediately follow the services at the church. Committal services will be held privately at a later date. The honor of pallbearer will belong to Julie and Joe Murphy, Jeff and Heidi Lokre. Gerhard was born November 6, 1929 to Gregor and Eldri (Glimsdal) Lokre on the family farm near Madelia, MN. He graduated from Madelia High in 1947, then attended Dunwoody College in Minneapolis, MN studying electronics from 1948-1950. His first job was for Muzak, in Minneapolis, installing their music systems in street cars. He served in the Army from 1951-1953, during the Korean War. After returning to the states, he worked as a TV repairman for Dealers TV service, in St. Paul, MN until December, 1972. Moving to Wisconsin in 1973, he started to work as a BMET. (Bio Medical Electronic Technician), for the Marshfield Clinic. In 1989 he was named the manager of that department, and held that position until retiring in June 1995. Gary married the love of his life, Doris Johnson, February 27, 1960 at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Butternut, MN. They met at a dance in 1958, and continued dancing thru out their life together, attending many polka fests, especially after retirement. He enjoyed tinkering, hunting, dancing, going to polka fests, concertina music, his grandchildren, traveling, and wintering in southern Texas. He was a do-it-yourself man, fixing most anything. He also built their home in Marshfield WI, on Eagle Rd. Gary is survived by his wife, Doris Lokre, of nearly 56 years, Marshfield, WI. His daughter, Julie (Joe) Murphy. Grandchildren, Matt Kessenich, Brian and Julian Murphy, Madison, WI. Step Grandchildren, Joey, Brady, and Shannon Murphy. His son, Jeffrey (Heidi) Lokre, Grandchildren, Derek, and Breana Lokre, Chili, WI. And his sister, Arlene Petrauskas, Santa Barbara, CA. Predeceased by his parents, brothers, Olaf and Paul, (died on Ellis Island NYC, 1913). Paul, Arnold, Palmer and Erling. His sisters, Ruth Sandstrom, Margaret McDonald, and nephew, John McDonald.
