Vincent P. Jakel, age 78, of Spencer, passed away Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at Ministry Saint Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11AM on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at Christ the King Catholic Church in Spencer. Rev. Samuel Martin will officiate. Burial with full military honors will follow in West Spencer Cemetery in the Town of Sherman, Clark County. Friends may call on Monday from 4PM until 8PM at Life Tributes Funeral Home in Spencer and again on Tuesday at the church in Spencer from 10AM until time of services at 11AM. A Parish Rosary Service will be held at 7PM on Monday at the funeral home. Serving as pallbearers will be: Robert; Jason; Bruce and Scott Jakel; Greg Hederer and Jeffrey Strobeck.
Vincent was born January 10, 1936, son of the late John and Joanna (Harrington) Jakel. He attended Stetsonville Elementary School and Medford High School. He served his country in the United States Army from 1958 until 1960. While in the service, he married Bonnie Cronk on April 18, 1959 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Stetsonville. She survives. He was employed at Land O Lakes in Spencer for 33 years before retiring in 1999.
Vince was a world class husband, father and grandfather. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed waltzing to Polka music with his wife and children.
His hobbies included playing horseshoes for over 36 years, pitching as many as 100 shoes a day. Vincent was also a horseshoe Senior State Campion in 2008. He thoroughly enjoyed his trips to McDonalds, collecting baseball cards, and pitching softball. He was an avid fan of the Packers, the Milwaukee Brewers, the Milwaukee Bucks and Atlanta Braves.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Bonnie Jakel of Spencer, his children: Jeffrey Jakel of Spencer; Debbie (Jeff) Strobeck of Roseville, MN; Robert Jakel of Owen; Donald Jakel of Rochester, MN and Laurie (Gregory) Hederer of Spencer; 16 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; three brothers: John (Garnet) Jakel, Jr. of Medford; Gregory Jakel of Stetsonville and James (Mary) Jakel of Weston along with many other nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his father-in- law and mother-in-law: James and Helen Cronk and his maternal and paternal grandparents.
