Edward A. Griesbach
Age 85, of Marshfield, formerly Stratford, passed away on Monday, October 10, 2016 at Atrium Post Acute Care in Marshfield.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12noon on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at Saint Andrew’s Catholic Church in Rozellville with Rev. Sengole Vethamanickam officiating. Burial will follow in Saint Andrew’s Cemetery with military honors provided by the Stratford Memorial VFW Post 6352. Family and friends and invited to gather on Thursday at the church in Rozellville from 10:30AM until time of services. Acting as pallbearers will be Edward’s nephews.
Ed was born December 19, 1930 in the Town of Day, Marathon County, the son of James and Alma (Lang) Griesbach. He attended Saint Andrew’s Parochial School in Rozellville. He faithfully served his country during the Korean War by entering the United States Marine Corps on January 24,1952 and was discharged on March 4, 1953. He returned to the Stratford area where he owned and operated a dairy farm in the Town of Day, Marathon County.
In his spare time Ed enjoyed a game or two of sheepshead. He loved listening to polka music, especially the sounds of Romy Gosz and sharing that beautiful music with his friends at the nursing home.
Edward was a member of Saint Andrew’s Catholic Church.
Survivors include his sister Lorraine Sternweis of Marshfield; his sister-in-law Lorraine Bentzler of Marshfierld; 16 nieces and nephews along with other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers: Alfred, Norbert (Margaret). Arnold (Gertie) and Robert; one sister Gertrude (Leo) DeGroote; one brother-in-law George Sternweis and two nieces: Shirley Smith and Karen Sternweis.
His family expresses their gratitude to the staff of both Atrium Post Acute Care and Ministry Home Care Hospice for the kindness and compassion shown to Edward.
