Valerian T. Bychinski, Age 83, of Spencer, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at Miller Alternative Care of Marshfield under the care of Ministry Home Care Hospice. His memorial service will be held at 3PM on Sunday, October 30, 2016 at Saint John’s Lutheran Church in Spencer with Pastor Rebekah Tarras officiating. Family and friends are invited to gather on Sunday at the church from 1PM until the time of service. A private committal service will be held at a later date. Pallbearers will be Rick Kuck, Bill Gau, Bud Suckow and Bill Stuttgen. Valerian Thomas Bychinski was born on February 11, 1933; the son of the late Frank and Charlotte (Stubinski) Bychinski. He graduated from Marathon High School, class of 1951. He furthered his education by attending a Cattle Short Course at Graham School in Kansas. Valerian was united in marriage to Donna Bloom on June 26, 1962 at St. James Catholic Church in Wausau. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from January 30, 1953 to December 16, 1954 during the Korean War. Upon his honorable discharge from the Army, he worked for the Rothschild paper mill until January of 1965. He and Donna farmed in Marathon until purchasing a dairy farm in Spencer in the fall of 1964. Val and Donna farmed with their children until their retirement in 1997 when their son Mark took over the farming operations. Sadly, Mark passed away on November 29, 2015. After Mark’s passing, the cattle and equipment were sold and Valerian and Donna continued to live on the family farm. Valerian was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Spencer. He was involved in various organizations including membership of the Spencer FFA Advisory Board, the Draft Horse Committee for the Central Wisconsin State Fair, 4H Leader, writer for the Holstein Hotline, Secretary for the Marathon County Holstein Board, President of DHIA in Marathon County and a member of the Clark County FFA Alumni Association. Valerian always enjoyed his time spent with each and every one of these important organizations. He enjoyed showing horses at various fairs for over 25 years and also loved farming with his wife and children. He enjoyed traveling and attending horse sales and spending time with his family and friends. Val treasured the time that he was able to spend on his four-wheeler with Ruby traveling around the neighborhood. He is survived by his wife Donna of 54 years; his children Matt Bychinski of Spencer, Rebekah Pockat of Cincinatti, Sarah Bychinski of Spencer and Annah (Steve) Nigon of Spencer; his grandchildren Jacob, Sam, and Marissa Nigon, Keith, Thomas, and Dawn Bychinski, Harleigh and Shelbi Hoefs, Courtney Wrycha and Andrew Pockat and his great grandchildren Preston and Neveah Imig. He is further survived by his sister Lucy (Ray) Kurszewski of Wausau and his brothers David (Kay) Bychinski of Wausau, Thomas (Sharon) Bychinski of Reedsburg, brother in-laws Jack Eckardt of Merrill and Roy Sprouse and goddaughter Sally (Bill) Gau of Wausau. He was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Charlotte, his sisters Patricia Eckardt, Theresa Sprouse, and Rita in infancy, a brother Marcel Bychinski, and a son Mark. The family would like to extend a Thank You to the staff at Miller’s Alternative Care for their exceptional care during his stay there. In lieu of flowers, the family is accepting memorials in Val’s name to be determined at a later date. Arrangements are under the care of Life Tributes Funeral Home-Spencer.
