Obituary of Betty Jean Staven

Betty Jean Staven, age 91, of Marshfield, passed away on the evening of Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at Golden Living Center Three Oaks in Marshfield under the tender care of Asera Care Hospice.
A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, October 1, 2011 at Zion United Methodist Church in Marshfield. Anola Becker will officiate. Friends may call on Saturday from 9:30 at the church until time of service. Burial will take place in the Loyal City Cemetery.
Betty was born September 20, 1920 in St. Joseph, Missouri and was adopted December 21, 1925 by Frank and Hazel Remillard. In 1938, Betty graduated from high school in Sioux Rapids, Iowa.
On February 18, 1942 Betty was united in marriage to Clarence June Simonson. The couple farmed in Sioux Rapids, Iowa for 11 years and had two sons, Bruce Allen and Richard Keith. In October 1953 she and her husband moved to Loyal, Wisconsin and farmed there for 33 years.
Betty was a den mother with the cub scouts for 4 years. She also worked in Central Service at Ministry St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, Wisconsin from 1967-1974. Upon retiring Betty traveled, and then spent eight years in Texas. On August 28, 1985 Mr. Simonson passed away. On March 15, 1987 she married Lloyd Robinson who sadly passed away five weeks later.
Betty later married Hilmer Staven on April 16, 1988 where they resided in Winter, WI until Hilmer’s death on March 18, 2003. Betty then moved to Marshfield where she made her home until the time of her death.
Betty was a member of Zion United Methodist Church in Marshfield. Her hobbies included crossword, and search-a-word puzzles, the Packers and Casinos. She loved to collect cat and kitten figurines, and she loved her cat, Sassy.
Survivors include a son, Richard (Sandi) Simonson of Colby; a daughter in-law Barbara Simonson of Clinton, North Carolina; Four grandchildren: David and Jeff (Marie) Simonson of Clinton, North Carolina, Amy (Mark) Peters, Ocotillo, California and Sara (Wesley) Turner of Marshfield. Four step grandchildren; Stacey (Jim) Bigley, Darcey (John) Maurer, Jessica (Matt Pagel) Kilty of Medford and Chad Kilty of Milwaukee. She is further survived by seven great-grandchildren and nine step great-grandchildren, one great-great grand-daughter in North Carolina, and one sister Phyllis (Jim) King of Seattle, Washington.
Betty was preceded in death by her three husbands, one son, Bruce Simonson and three brothers: Vernon, Derald and Cecil Remillard, one sister: Helen (Carlos) LaPorte, one grand-daughter, Debbie Simonson, and a special friend Newell Strack.
