Obituary of Rodney D. Kerksieck

Rodney D. “Rod” Kerksieck, age 50, of Marshfield, passed away on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at his residence while surrounded by his family and under the care of Ministry Home Care Hospice.

His funeral service will be held at 1PM on Friday, October 6, 2017 at Life Tributes Funeral Home in Spencer. The Rev. Steven Brice will officiate. Burial will follow in West Spencer Cemetery Town of Sherman with military honors being presented by the Loyal America Legion Post 175.  Family and friends are invited to gather on Thursday, October 5, 2017 from 4PM until 8PM at the funeral home in Spencer and again on Friday from 11AM until the time of service. The honor of pallbearer belongs to Deric Bilgrien, Kevin Cook, Mike Seefeld, Jordan Reynolds, Ron Roder and Todd Krasselt.

Rod was born on October 11, 1966 the son of Fred and Winnifred (Hoffman) Kerksieck. He graduated from Spencer High School. He was united in marriage to Billee Darge on June 14, 1986 in Spencer. Rod proudly served his county in the United State Army as a gunner during the Gulf War in 1991. Shortly after the Gulf War, he was honorably discharged from the Army and re-joined the National Guard, retiring in 2004 after 20 years of service. In January of 2017 he was bestowed the Honorable Order of the Saint Barbara, a military honor awarded to soldiers who have demonstrated the highest standards of integrity and moral character.

His employment included driving truck for Hughes Trucking Co. in Spencer, working as a laborer at Liberty Homes in Dorchester and most recently as a chef at Parkway Pines in Greenwood. Rod enjoyed cooking and watching cooking shows, fishing, hunting and riding his motorcycle. He also enjoyed campfires, watching the Packers, watching his grandchildren play sports and most of all spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Rod will be greatly missed by his wife of 31 years Billee of Marshfield; his parents Fred and Winnifred Kerksieck of Spencer; his children: Stephanie (Joe Binder) Kerksieck of Greenwood, Eric (Ashley Payne) Kerksieck of Chili and Cassandra (Phil Stumper) Kerksieck of Marshfield; his brothers: Bob (Dinah) Kerksieck of Iowa, Phil (Tammy) Kerksieck of Greenbay, Dean Kerksieck of Florida and his sister Geralyn. He is further survived by his five grandchildren: Kole Miller, Katrina Goch, Maximus Goch, Kaiden Rogers and Dominic Novak; his sister and brother-in-laws: Jeff (Tammy) Darge, Tammy (Gary) Cook, Vicky (Dwight) Treankler, Connie (Jon) Strey and Paula (Rob Treankler) Darge along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father-in-law Pearl (Bill) Darge; his Grandma Hoffman, his sister-in-law Mona Darge and his nephew Jeff Darge Jr.

His family extends their heartfelt appreciation to Ministry Home Care Hospice for the support and care provided to Rod.

In lieu of flowers memorial may be designated to his family.
