Harold C. Stange,

Age 87, of Colby, passed away surrounded by his family, on Monday, November 20, 2017 at Clark County Rehab & Living Center under the care of Hope Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc.

His funeral service will be held at 11AM on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at Zion Lutheran Church in Colby. Rev. Mark Neumann will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Paul Norwegian Cemetery, in the town of Hoard with military honors presented by Huber, Schmitt, Brusewitz, Decker VFW Post #2227.  His visitation will be held on Saturday from 9AM until the time of service at the church in Colby.  The honor of pallbearer belongs to Bill Mattson, Hunter Stanton, Kamran Stanton, Jeff Stange, Chad Buss and Ryan Buss.

Harold was born in Loyal, on May 27, 1930 to Clarence and Linda (Scheer) Stange. He attended Loyal and Marshfield grade schools and graduated from Milwaukee High School. Herald was united in marriage to Jackie (VerlaLott) McCarron at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Curtiss. He worked at various jobs before enlisting in the United States Army on October 4, 1950. After basic training at Camp Polk, LA, he was sent to Japan and then to the front lines in Korea where he was hospitalized with frozen feet

In 1952 he was again hospitalized in Japan for several weeks, suffering from a shrapnel wound to his arm, hip and foot. He received many medals, including two purple hearts. Upon release from the hospital, he was returned to the States where he served as Honor Guard for military funerals at Poseidon, CA military cemetery until his honorable discharge on October 1953, when he returned to Loyal. He was employed at the Roddis Co. in Marshfield until 1963 and then at American Box Board which is now PCA, until his retirement in 1995. After retirement he worked part time for several years at Liberty Homes in Dorchester, repairing stapler guns and at Zion Lutheran Church in Colby.

Harold was a past VFW Post Commander for Huber, Schmitt, Brusewitz, Decker Post #2227 in Colby and was selected “All State Post Commander” in 1968-69, he was also a lifetime member of the VFW in Colby and a member of the Colby Fire Department for over 30 years.

In his younger years he enjoyed league and couples bowling, fishing, hunting and snowmobiling. Harold especially enjoyed the time he and Jackie spent at their mobile home on Arrowhead lake in Minocqua and later at the cottage on Soo Lake in Phillips, where eventually he and Jackie were able to spend their summers. He loved being a Grandpa, Great Grandpa and Papa.

Harold is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jackie; his son Michael McCarron of Colbyand his daughter Vicki Ganske of Chetek; his five grandchildren: Mindy Stanton, Shanna Roth, Nathan (Stacy) Roth and Miranda & Molie McCarron; his 10 great grandchildren:  Hunter, Kamran, Kayla, McKenna, Mataya, Ellie, Briana, Baily, Myah and Ma Kylynn; his brother Lyle (Alice) Stange and sister Jean (Charles) Montgomery; along with many other nieces, nephews and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Allen, step father Neil Oestreich and twin grandsons Shawn & Jeremy Roth.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that memorials in Harold’s name be directed to the Colby VFW Post #2227. His family extends their appreciation.
