Edwin L. Wilichowski,
Age 89, of Marathon City, passed away at Aspirus Wausau Hospital on Tuesday, March 25, 2014.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11AM on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church,Town of Cassel. Rev. Jerome Patric will officiate. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Friends may call on Saturday at the church from 9AM until time of services. Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons: David, Paul and Josh Wilichowski, Pat Pfeifer, Jack, Sam and Joey Wells and Brian Ostrenga. His granddaughters will act as honorary pallbearers.
Edwin was born September 5, 1924 in the Town of Cassel, one of 14 children to Frank and Lucy (Koppa) Wilichowski. His marriage to Mary Ann Sturgul was held in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Town of Cassel on August 6, 1949, enjoying 64 years with his loving wife. She survives. Edwin owned and operated a silo construction business and worked for Whitehouse Dairy in Marathon and Foremost Foods in Rothschild until his retirement. His children remember their father telling stories about the “100 tons of stones” that he and his siblings had picked from the fields of his parents farm. He loved being a farmer. Edwin was always there to lend a hand and help out whenever and wherever, whether it was his siblings, his children or anyone that could use a helping hand.
His hobbies included going out to make maple syrup, picking mushrooms with his children, baking bread and cooking delicious meals, making his famous homemade sausage. Edwin also enjoyed playing sheepshead and watching the Brewers or Packers. Edwin loved helping his son Ron with his auction business and did so for better than 25 years.
Edwin was a longtime member and an usher at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Town of Cassel.
Survivors include his devoted wife Mary Ann Wilichowski of Marathon City; his five children: Ronald (Mary K) Wilichowski of Marathon City, David (Frances) Wilichowski of Boyd, Rosemary (Felix) Haase of Milwaukee, John (Mary) Wilichowski of Owen/Withee and Annie (Robert) Wells of Colgate; 14 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren; two brothers: Ruffin (Dorothy) Wilichowski of Marathon City and Art Wilichowski of Arkansas; four sisters: Betty Karlen of Edgar, Virgie (Alphonse) Mroczenski of Wausau, Sister Laverne Wilichowski of Prescott and Christina (Jerry) Martin of Weston along with many other relatives and friends and his pet Sara.
He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers: Aloysius, Alfred, David, Clarence, Tony and Jerry; one sister Darlene.
In lieu of flowers, the Wilichowski family is accepting memorials in memory of Edwin.
