Eileen E. Sargent,
Age 95, of Marshfield was born into eternal life on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at Stoney River Memory Care in Marshfield and under the care of AseraCare Hospice.
A private service to celebrate Eileen’s life will be held with Pastor Donn Radde officiating.
Eileen was born on October 8, 1922 in Cambridge, the daughter of Arthur and Lillian (Johnson) Severson. She received her various degrees, including two PhD’s, from the University of Wisconsin, Syracuse University of New York and Chicago University. Eileen was active as a teacher in public schools and as a supervisor/ consultant in Elementary Education for 33 years. She retired from Marquette University in Milwaukee. Eileen was extremely dedicated to her chosen field of education and received many recommendations and commendations throughout her career. Eileen thoroughly enjoyed working with children of all ages to help them achieve their utmost capacity.
She was a life member of the National Education Association (NEA), an active member of the International Reading Association (IRA) and on the board of directors for the same. A part of her responsibilities was running and promoting IRA Conferences throughout the North American Continent and in foreign countries. Eileen was a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star (OES) with dual membership in Dousman #257 and Alpha Chapter #114 of Argyle and of Daughters of the Nile and was elected Grand Esther of OES in 1980 and 1981.
Eileen was united in marriage to Merle Sargent at East Koshkonong Church in Cambridge. Eileen and Merle were active members of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Milwaukee. Traveling together was a pleasure they were privileged to enjoy.
Eileen is survived by her brother Laverne Severson and sister Patricia (Lee) Saunders along with many other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Arthur and Lillian; her husband Merle; her sister Joan Stevens and her sister-in-law Bev Severson.
