I was just a little boy the first time we went to Spenser to visit Uncle Fred and Aunt Emma. We were going to a farm with cows and hay and a barn. Are we there, yet? We had to go through Marshfield and then only a small forever to get to the farm located on a long road running east and west. The family greeted us joyfully. I remember Fred, Emma, Edna, Joe, and Frieda. We slept well from the trip and got up to have a big breakfast. It seems to me that Edna was in charge. After that we went out to the barn. I remember Joe was eleven at the time. Fred was milking cows. He squeezed an utter aimed directly at me, and I got a face full of warm milk. He laughed while I was holding back tears hiding behind my dad. Farm life is tough. We saw cow pies and strange looking machinery. My dad said one of his uncles had been killed by a piece of farm machinery. Many years later my dad passed and Edna and Frieda came down to the funeral.
