Charles M. Loucks
Age 85, of Abbotsford, passed away at Ministry Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield on Saturday, June 7, 2014.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11AM on Saturday, June 14, 2014 at First Presbyterian Church in Abbotsford. Rev. Marcia Thomas will officiate. Committal services will follow in Abbotsford Public Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to gather on Saturday at the church from 9AM until time of services.
Charles (“Chuck”) was born July 14, 1928 in Abbotsford, the son of Lemuel and Rosalie (Merwin) Loucks. He attended a country school, later graduating from Abbotsford High School, then one year at the University of WI-Madison.
On February 6, 1950, he married his best friend and love of his life, the former Elizabeth “Betty” Fierke. Together, they raised their family and operated a dairy farm in Marathon Co.
He and Betty formed the Pride 4-H Club in Marathon Co. They were long time supporters and advisors in 4-H at the club and county level.
He was a long time member of the First Presbyterian Church in Abbotsford, served on many committees and was actively involved in youth and social groups.
His hobbies included reading, gardening, singing, and making thousands of gallons of delicious maple syrup. He was an active proponent of responsible farming and forestry practices. He was an avid student of history with a passion for the Civil War and American history in general. In later years, Chuck and Betty traveled extensively around the United States and Canada.
Survivors include his five children: David (Gerri) Loucks of Abbotsford, Denise Jacobs of DePere, Brian (Martha) Loucks of Abbotsford, Debbie (Mike) DeCaluwe of West Bend and Russell (Sheila) Loucks of Eagan; six grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Betty, two brothers and two sisters.
