Age 83, of Owen, passed away suddenly at home on Thursday, February 13, 2020. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Ronald Edward Hofmann, the son of Edward and Martha (Braun) Hofmann was born on March 26, 1936 in the upstairs of the Hall Co-Op cheese factory in Cherokee (Colby) Wisconsin. At age 5, the Hofmann family moved to a farm 8 miles west of Dorchester, WI. Ronald attended the one room school, Park School, in the township of Hoard for 8 y ears and graduated from the Owen High School in 1954. In his younger years, Ron worked in various places such as: Meyer Lumber Company, hauling milk for Millabrant factory, the pea cannery in Owen, working in the woods for Paul Brothers, all the while helping on the farm. He was drafted in the U.S. Army and then put in the Army reserve for 6 years; due to the illness of his mother, he was Honorably discharged as a Staff Sargent. On March 21, 1968 he was united in marriage to Carol Burtard. Later, he and his wife, Carol, bought the farm from his folks and raised and milked Registered Holstein Cattle with the prefix “Keepsake”. In 1999, they sold the milking cows and raised Beef cattle until 2011. He crop farmed for a few years before renting out the farmland. In 2019, the farm became a Centennial farm and was recognized at the Wisconsin State Fair. He loved to cook maple syrup with his father and later with his son, Ed. He raised honeybees for 35 years and was a fur trapper all of his life. He also run and bred hunting hounds for fox, coyote and bear. Ron loved to travel; he and his wife went to Europe and Canada and visited 42 states. Ron is survived by his wife Carol, son Edward Hofmann of Owen, daughter Anna (Dustin) Grube of Owen and sister Mardell Hofmann of Phillips. He is further survived by his two grandchildren Hollyann and Benjamin Grube of Owen. He was predeceased by his parents, one sister Inez Behringer and one brother in infancy.
