Douglas G. Schlichting Age 83, of Minocqua, passed away Sunday, November 24, 2013 at Ministry Saint Clare’s Hospital in Weston. A funeral service will be held at 11AM on Saturday, November 30, 2013 at Peace Lutheran Church in Arbor Vitae (10868 Old 51 North) with Rev. Jonathan Cluppert officiating. Family and friends are invited to join for a visitation on Friday from 4PM until 7PM at Saint John Ev. Lutheran Church (High Steeple Church) in the Town of Wien and on Saturday at the church in Arbor Vitae from 10AM until time of services. Committal services will be held on Saturday at 3:15PM back at Saint John Ev. Lutheran Cemetery in the Town of Wien. Acting as pallbearers will be Tim Schlichting, Todd Schlichting, Andy Schlichting, Brendan Gille, Justin Gille and Cody Tesch. Honorary pallbearers will be Angie Mueller, Billie Jo Gille and Amber Rossey. Arrangements are entrusted to Life Tributes Funeral Home-Spencer. Doug was born April 25, 1930 in the Town of Buena Vista, Almond, to Louis Schlichting and Eva (nee) Gower. After his education was completed he entered the United States Navy and proudly served his country for two years. After his honorable discharge he married Mildred Margaret Gladys Wendtland at St. John Ev. Lutheran (High Steeple) Church. Sadly she passed away August 18, 1994. He later married Gloria Wallander - Riendeau on May 10, 2003 in Minocqua. She survives. Doug worked in electrical maintenance for companies including Century Fence in Waukesha and Nordberg Manufacturing in Milwaukee. His hobbies included fishing, hunting all kinds of game including moose, elk, turkey deer and bear. He was an avid outdoorsman, loved gardening, solving crossword puzzles, bird watching, as well as the sports of bowling, golfing and a friendly game of shuffleboard at his winter home in Florida. Doug was instrumental in founding Ascension Lutheran Church in Waukesha and Peace Lutheran Church in Arbor Vitae and gave his time freely as an elder at the Lutheran churches he was involved in and attended the men’s bible studies as well. Currently he was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, Arbor Vitae. Survivors include his wife Gloria of Minocqua; three children: Shirley (Daniel) Rosien of Edgar, Gregory (Ellie Boerner) Schlichting of Glendale and Robert (Karen) Schlichting of Hamburg; one daughter-in-law Karen Jean Schlichting of Athens; five grandsons and four granddaughters; seven great granddaughters and six great grandsons. Gloria and her 10 children, grandchildren and great grandchildren shared their loved with Doug who brought joy, fun and companionship into their lives. Doug is further survived by one sister Mae Morien of Stratford and one brother David (Diane) Schlichting of Minocqua; many beloved nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends from this area and the Minocqua area. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Mildred, a son Roger E. Schlichting, a brother-in-law William Morien and a sister-in-law and brother-in-law Darlene and Clarence Wendtland.
