Obituary of Maurice Christian Hougum

Maurice Christian Hougum of Stratford, Wisconsin passed away on November 15, 2020 in Stevens Point. He was born September 1, 1930 in Marshfield, the son of Clarence and Eva Hougum. He graduated from Stratford High School and went on to serve our country in the United States Army until his honorable discharge. On September 20, 1958, he was united in marriage to Sylvia Heisler. They resided at the Stratford residence, where together they operated a dairy farm.
Maurice was a hard-working dairy farmer, husband and father. He enjoyed daily four-wheeler rides down to the woods and around the farm. He loved deer hunting and looked forward to it every year. He participated in dartball in the church league for numerous years.
He is survived by his children, Larry Hougum of Milwaukee, Darrell (Crystal) Hougum of Marshfield, Kurt (Lynda) Hougum of Franklin, Maureen (Bruce) Erdmann of Greenfield and Ila (Daniel) Anderson of Washburn; his seven grandchildren, Heather (Kyle) Rakowski, Kelly Hougum, Cody (Ruthann) Erdmann, Cari (David) Sobczak, Cristin Erdmann, Devon Anderson and Natasha Anderson and his five great-grandchildren, Gage Rakowski, Charlotte, Colton and Hannah Erdmann, and Rielynn Sobczak. He is further survived by five step-grandchildren, Amanda (Jason) Bruch, Jessie (Jenna) Shinn, Robby (Ren) Shinn, Adam Erdmann and Shelby Erdmann; seven step great-grandchildren, Lucy Bruch, Jordan and Jacob Shinn, Rayva and Rawson Shinn, and Ethan and Shannon Erdmann; his siblings, Irene Kringle, Evonna Cheetham, Mildred Brown and Karen Hamblen along with many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Maurice was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Sylvia; his parents, Clarence and Eva Hougum; one brother, Howard Hougum and one sister, Betty Casanova.
The Funeral to remember to Maurice will be held at 12noon on Wednesday, November 25, 2020 at Life Tributes Funeral Home in Spencer with Pastor Paul Vander Galien of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Stratford officiating. He will be laid to rest next to Sylvia in McMillan Memorial Gardens in Marshfield following the service. Military honors will be conducted by VFW Post 6352 of Stratford. A Visitation will be held at the funeral home in Spencer on Wednesday from 10 AM until time of service. The honor of pallbearer belongs to Cody Erdmann, David Sobczak, Devon Anderson, Robby Shinn and Chuck Ortner.
