Mary J. Pupp

A resident of Stratford, passed away on Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at Marshfield Medical Center at the age of 75.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, May 20, 2021 at Emmanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Stratford (historic March Rapids) with Rev. Philip Wilde officiating. Following the service, Mary will be laid to rest with her parents and stepfather in Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery in March Rapids. Family and friends are invited to gather at the church on Thursday from 9 AM until time of service. The honor of pallbearer belongs to Keira Bluel, Natalie Pupp, Dayne Dix, Nicole Pupp, Reynen Dix and Alexander Pupp.

Mary was born on February 16, 1946 in the Town of Hull, Marathon County, Wisconsin. She was the daughter of Benedict Fitzel and Dorothy Olson and stepdaughter to Herman Totzke. Mary was a graduate of Stratford High School. She was united in marriage to Duane Pupp. They later divorced. She worked on the farm and was a stay-at-home mom to their three children, Benedict, Eric and Glenna.

Once her children were all in school, Mary became a CNA at the former Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield for 25 years caring for countless patients along the way. She continued that call to serve others by becoming an Emergency Medical Technician and a member of the Stratford Area Fire Department for over 25 years. Mary took great pride in “answering the call for help” once again caring for countless patients and transporting them safely to the hospital. She continued to give of her time and talents as a CPR instructor training first responders and civilians for many years. After retirement, Mary enjoyed reading and having lunch with friends.

Those that will cherish her memory include her son, Benedict (Kristina) Pupp; her daughter, Glenna (Shawn) Pupp; her grandchildren: Keira (Mac) Bluel, Natalie Pupp, Dayne Dix, Nicole Pupp, Reynen Dix and Alexander Pupp and her sisters, Diane Hoff of Rockford, IL and Susan Totzke of Pittsville. She is further survived by and gives her love to all of her nieces and nephews, you made her days special and to all of Duane’s family, she missed you all.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Benedict Fitzel and Dorothy (Herman) Totzke; her son, Eric Pupp and her brother-in-law, David Pupp.

She also wanted to thank all of her friends that supported her all her years with love and friendship. You all were a joy to be with.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Mary’s name can be directed to the Stratford Area Fire Department and Ambulance Service.
