Obituary of George Michael Schreier
Age 82, of Edgar, passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Saturday, August 7, 2021
George was born on May 6, 1939 in the Town of Rietbrock, the son of Michael and Johanna (Rajek) Schreier. On August 26, 1961, he was united in marriage to Arlene Zunker at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Edgar and together shared almost 60 years as husband and wife. George was a dedicated dairy farmer from the time he was a young boy until his retirement. His faith, his family and his farm were his life.
He was a longtime member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Marathon County Holstein Association as well as an FFA alumni member.
In his spare time George enjoyed polka music and was granted the title of “expert sausage maker” given to him by family and friends.
Those who will cherish his memory include his devoted wife, Arlene of Edgar; his children, Alan (Cindy) Schreier of Wausau, Anthony (Jocelyn) Schreier of Edgar, Karen (fiancé Nick Long) Schreier of Wausau and Joseph (Joanne) Schreier of Edgar; his grandchildren, David (Brianna) Schreier, Kristin (Tony) Meister, Jeremy (Kelsey) Schreier, Grey Long and Lucas Schreier and three sisters, Georgia Ann Schreier of Edgar, Joanne (Jeffrey) Wichlacz of Rozellville and Marie Schreier of Edgar along with many other relatives, friends and good neighbors.
George was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Johanna Schreier.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12 Noon on Saturday, August 14, 2021 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Edgar with Rev. Alan Wierzba officiating. George will be laid to rest in the parish cemetery privately at a later time. Family and friends are invited to gather at the church on Saturday from 9 AM until time of services. The honor of pallbearers belongs to David and Brianna Schreier, Tony and Kristin Meister and Jeremy and Kelsey Schreier. The honor of bearing gifts belongs to Grey Long and Lucas Schreier.
If desired, memorials in George’s name are being accepted to either St. John the Baptist Catholic Church or St, John’s Parochial School, both in Edgar.
