Obituary of Eleanor Mary Wisnewski
Eleanor M. “Cookie” Wisnewski
Age 79, of Edgar, passed away on Wednesday, August 25, 2021 at The Bay Colonial Manor in Wausau.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12 Noon on Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Poniatowski with Rev. Alan Wierzba officiating. Eleanor will be laid to rest in the parish cemetery. Family and friends are invited to gather at the church on Tuesday from 10 AM until time of services. The honor of pallbearer belongs to John Masanz, Jim Diers, Bradley Wolf, Patty Diers, Vicki Tessmer, Jill Schmitz, Sarah Schick and Kate Swan.
Eleanor was born on February 5, 1942 in Edgar; the daughter of Anthony and Cecilia (Sommer) Diers. She graduated from Edgar High School. On July 23, 1977, she was united in marriage to George Wisnewski at Holy Family Catholic Church in Poniatowski. Sadly, he passed away in 1999. She was employed at Weyerhaeuser, the Edgar Bakery and was a dedicated nurse’s aide and caretaker for her mother.
She was a lifelong member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Poniatowski.
Eleanor was devoted to her faith and her family. With patient and skillful hands, she created beautiful embroidery pieces. When the polka music was playing, you could always find Cookie out on the dance floor dancing polkas.
She will be deeply missed by her sisters, Elmira Masanz of Edgar and Mary Jo (Ronald) Diers of Athens as well as all of her nieces, nephews and neighbors including her special neighbor, Carol.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, Anthony and Cecilia; her husband, George; her sister, Elizabeth Wolf and her brother, Ron “Butch” Diers.
If desired, memorials in Eleanor’s names are being accepted by her family for a charity to be determined.
