Sylvia D. David, age 76, of Auburndale, passed away Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at The House Of The Dove in Marshfield surrounded by her loving family and under the care of Ministry Home Care Hospice.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11a.m. on Monday, June 27, 2011 at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Rozellville. Rev. Eric Berns will officiate. Burial will be held privately at a later date. Friends may call on Sunday, June 26, 2011 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Life Tributes Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Spencer and again on Monday at the church in Rozellville from 10 a.m. until time of service. A prayer vigil service will be held at 7:45 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Sylvia’s honorary pallbearers will be her godchildren: Melissa Burger, Alan David, Blane David, Steve Dalum, Stephanie Daniels and Jay Schaefer.
Sylvia was born January 24, 1935 in the town of Wien in Marathon County, daughter of the late Joseph and Ottilie (Klein) Burger. She attended parochial school in Athens later graduating from Athens High School as class valedictorian. From 1953 to 1957 Sylvia was employed in the clerical office at Employers of Wausau. On July 6, 1957 she married Daniel David at Wuertzburg Catholic Church in the town of Wien. She continued as a homemaker raising their four children. Sylvia was a longtime member of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church and St. Andrew’s PCCW. Other organizations included being past president of Ladies Auxillary Fleet Reserve Association Branch # 238, past secretary/treasurer of various bowling leagues, past president of Marshfield Horseshoe Club and a 50 year member of Catholic Order of Foresters. Hobbies included reading and solving jigsaw puzzles, playing cards and domino’s. She loved coaching and playing softball and teaching the art of horseshoe pitching. She fondly boasted of her five granddaughters who have held the title of Jr. Girls State Horseshoe Pitching Champion from 1997 through 2009 and including two world champions. Her family has fond memories of mother’s delicious sweet rolls.
Survivors include her loving husband Daniel David of Auburndale, four children: Lance (Shelley) David of Chili; Sonia (Mel) Cook of Stratford; Sheila (Bill) Kuchenbecker of Verona; Denise (Mike) Riehle of Auburndale; ten grandchildren: Tava (Chris) Kildahl, Kiri and Aleena Cook, Brianna, Ross, Mason, Garett, Jader Kuchenbecker, Nicole (Doug) Forst and Tina Riehle; three great grandchildren: Lillyan and Conner Kildahl and Trevor Forst. She is further survived by four sisters: Christine Schaefer of Abbotsford; Agnes Gianoli of Athens; Cecilia Johnson of Edgar; Theresa David of Marshfield; one brother David (Marilyn) Burger of Marshfield along with many other relatives and friends.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters: Marie Ellenbecker and Janice Nowacki; and three brothers: Joseph, George and Leonard Burger.
