(Memories of my Brother in Law.) When I first met Paul about 24 years ago, I was so impressed with his appealing personality, and genuine humbleness, disired qualities of any person.
Other tributes spoke of his abilities as a great conversationalist. I, as well, can testify to this. Paul was such an easy person to communicate with. Over the years, Paul and I had many great talks on so many subjects including farming, solid waste management, freight hauling, medicine, restaurant management, golf, music and many others. Our interaction would focus on my interests as well as his. These talks were truly 2 way conversations, which was refreshing. Paul was also also a very generous man, offering to pay the whole tab for the group when out to eat. Also our kids school fund raisers and mission trips were met with Paul and Rita's support. In closing, God put amazing abilities, talents, attributes and qualities in Paul specific to him alone, making him absolutely unique. He will be so missed.

Paul was one of my favorite colleagues to work with at Marshfield Clinic. His passion for his work, his positive energy and his laughter were my favorites. His patients loved him. I also enjoyed the genetic conversations at the Brew pub. Paul will be missed by many.

My dear Rita, please know that you and your family are in our thoughts and prayers during this time of loss. Paul was such a larger than life person. We first met Paul during an interview dinner at then West Fourteenth. His jolly demeanor, great sense of humor, and insight into moving to the rural midwest were so comforting to us and helped us make the decision to move to Marshfield. We are here in part because of Paul. We only knew Paul in his 2nd career as a restauranteur but imagine his warm, welcoming personality made him an outstanding doctor. We have very much enjoyed getting to you and Paul during the past 10 years. We will miss Paul’s infectious smile and laughter very much!
We look forward to keeping in touch with you, Rita. God bless you and all your wonderful family.

Q: How did you meet Paul?
A: Dr. Meier was my high risk pregnancy doctor for all my children. He was very kind and personable. My first child was born at 32 weeks and it was a very stressful time. He was very understanding and helped ease my worries about having a preemie. My second child was born with a chromosome abnormality. He was very concerned about me and the baby after she was born and he made an effort to speak to me directly on the phone and see how our family was doing. Then my third child made it all the way to full term and did great. My husband and I formed a strong bond with Dr. Meier. He became friends of ours and even spent some time raising Sheltie puppies with our dogs that were AKC registered. We also farmed and he had horses. He would store the horse trailer in our shed on the farm. I have never forgoton about how great a person and doctor he was. So sorry to hear about Paul passing. Prayers to the Meier family. I was blessed to have the opportunity to work with Paul on many shared patients. He was compassionate, supportive and always sought to do the best for those in his care. Once he “retired” to work full time at the brew pub, I enjoyed running into him and catching up. He was quite the conversationalist, able to discuss most any issue. He will certainly be missed. RIP Paul.

I HAD DONE THIS PREVIOUSLY, SO DO NOT KNOW IF THAT ONE IS HERE OR NOT. BUT REPEATING WHAT A WONDERFUL DOCTOR AND CO-WORKER HE WAS, CAN NOT BE REPEATED ENOUGH. HE NEVER MADE US NURSES AND OTHER STAFF, FEEL BENEATH HIM. HE TREATED US WITH DIGNITY AND TRUST. I HAVE SEEN SO MANY POSITIVE THINGS POSTED ON FACEBOOK ABOUT THIS WONDERFUL MAN AND DOCTOR. EVEN WHEN I MET HIM OUT IN PUBLIC, HE STILL MAN ME FEEL SPECIAL, AS HE DID SO MANY.

Oh wow I am so sad hearing this news. Dr. Meier was the best baby doctor, he saved my son's life twice the first time was when I found out I was having a baby the other doctor I seen wanted me to have an abortion because I had a lot of medical problems I was very high risk, but I wouldn't do it so I went looking for a new Doctor and I found Dr. Meier he told me I will help and he did that was the first time, the 2nd time was I was like 34 weeks along and I didn't feel my son moving as much as I was so I called up to his office he told the nurse to tell me to get thete right away I went for an ultrasound and my son heartbeat was not very strong the Dr. Came in the ultrasound room and said we need to do an emergency C-section to save my son life and he did save him. He was my only child so I was so thankful for Dr. Meier he was my hero in my eyes. And every time I seen him in and around town anywhere he remembered me by name. So I am so happy I found him as my doctor. To Dr. Meier family I am so sorry for your loss.
