Obituary of Roger Walter Treffert

Please share a memory of Roger to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Roger Treffert, 90, of Curtiss, passed away peacefully under the care of Heartland Hospice, on Monday, November 6th, 2023, in Colby, WI.

Roger was born on November 2nd, 1933, in Wausau to Walter and Leona Treffert. He grew up in Menomonee Falls, WI and graduated from Menomonee Falls High School in 1951.

Roger married Diane Dietsch in August of 1953 and they resided in Pewaukee, WI, where they raised three sons: Randy, Raymond, and Ralph. During his time in Pewaukee, he was a Machinist at Milwaukee Hydraulics.

In 1971, Roger and Diane purchased a Dairy Farm and moved their family of five to Curtiss, where Roger would live for the next 50 years of his life. Roger enjoyed hunting, fishing, and woodworking, but his favorite hobby of all was milking cows. Roger’s best work was being a Dairy Farmer, and he dedicated himself to this career for 26 years.

In 1997, Roger sold his cows to end his profession as a dairy farmer and became a CNA. He also developed an interest in Real Estate and obtained his Real Estate License.

Roger was very dedicated to his Christian faith and enjoyed reciting and teaching others the word of God. Roger was a devoted member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Dorchester, where he sat in the same church pew for several decades.

Roger was stable, strong, and passionate about his work and past times. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was also known for having great hair and a perfectly trimmed beard. Roger enjoyed crafting puzzles, fidgets, and gadgets using everyday objects around the farm, and enjoyed watching others attempt to solve the puzzles he’d build. When he wasn’t engineering new ideas or milking cows, Roger could be found in the woods on his Curtiss property, chopping wood for his stove, and finding new trails to explore. He was a captivating storyteller and loved spending time with his grandkids, teaching them about life on the farm. His family loved hearing him play his concertina, and his dog loved to howl along.

Roger is survived by his sons: Raymond (Cindy) Treffert of Stanley, WI and Ralph (Feleicia) Treffert of Spencer, WI, grandchildren Amber (Jeriame) Czubakowski, Brianne (Mike) O’Brien, Caitlin (Scott) Dahl, and Holly Kirker (Alex Harrellson), and great-grandchildren, Zeke, Evelyn, Emmett, Jane, Raymond, Lexi, Malakai, Conor, and Charlie.

Roger is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Leona Treffert, his wife, Diane (Dietsch) Treffert, his sister, Ramona (Treffert) Schaeffel, and his son Randy Treffert, and many other beloved relatives.

A funeral service for Roger will be held at 11 AM on Monday, November 13th, 2023, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Dorchester. Rev. Shawn Andersen will officiate. A visitation will be held at the church in Dorchester beginning at 9 AM until the time of service. A luncheon will follow. The burial service will be held at Athens Lutheran Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Peter Lutheran Church.
