Louis "Louie" James Nowak, 58, of Chicago, IL formerly of Edgar, WI, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Friday, March 3, 2017. He was born on September 13, 1958 to Henry Nowak and Evelyn (Stankowski) Nowak. Louie grew up in Edgar, WI. He graduated from Edgar High School and went on to receive a Bachelors of Fine Arts from the University of Wisconsin– River Falls. Louie’s passion and dedication was in his work. He owned and operated a successful retail home furnishings and unique gifts store in Chicago, IL since 2001 called Persona. He was a well-respected business owner in the community. Louie was a son, brother, uncle, godfather, loyal friend, musician and artist. He will always be remembered as a man of exceptional kindness, honesty, talents and integrity. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Louie is survived by his mother, Evelyn (Stankowski) Nowak and 14 siblings Walter Nowak, Elaine Petrowski, Sue (Steve) Wiesneski, Rose Hagie, Mark (Jenny) Nowak, Art (Kate) Nowak, Al (Lori) Nowak, Duane (Penny) Nowak, Philip (Kristen) Nowak, Betty (Jeff) Harmon, Charles (Liz) Nowak, Rich (Lisa) Nowak, Fred (Patti) Nowak, and Sarah Dahlke, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Louie is preceded in death by his father, Henry Nowak, Jack Hagie (brother-in-law), Aaron Nowak (nephew) and grandparents. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11AM on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 712 Market St, Marathon, WI 54448. The Rev. Msgr. Joseph Diermeier will officiate along with Rev. Thomas Huff con-celebrating. Family and friends are invited to gather on Saturday at the church from 9AM until the time of service. There will be a luncheon after the service, followed by the burial at St. John’s Cemetery in Edgar, WI. Arrangements are under the care of Life Tributes Funeral Home – Spencer.
