Obituary of Shirley A. Zettler

Please share a memory of Shirley to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Shirley A. Zettler, 83, passed away surrounded by family on November 24, 2017.  She was a lifelong resident of Marshfield, Wisconsin, born 10-6-34, to Leona (Allain) and George Welk.  She was a 1953 graduate of Columbus High School.  Her employment included General Telephone Company, St. Joseph Hospital and Figis.  She also owned The Promise Shop.

Shirley married Norbert (Zeke) Zettler in 1958.  Zeke predeceased her in 1983.

She is survived by her sister, Ardene (Ted) Gripentrog, Marshfield; her brother, William (Ann) Welk, Westby; sister-in-law, Caroline (Kelly) Hagen, and nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Donald, Robert and Charles; sister, Geraldine; sisters-in-law, Nadine and Marion; brother-in-law, Wilbur; nephews, Christopher, Shaun, Rocky and Wylie; mother and father-in-law, Emil and Laura (Hannemann) Zettler; as well as other sisters and brothers-in-law.

She loved to cook (ground baloney sandwiches and potato soup were specialties), had an incredible green thumb as showed in her beautiful gardens, loved to decorate for all the holidays, and was a huge fan of rummage sales and Nascar driver, Jeff Gordon.  Shirley was also an avid photographer and loved to capture sunsets, Wildwood Park, nature of all kinds, community events, and celebrations of family and friends.  Her favorite collections were angels and Snoopy items.  She loved to wear denim and hats.

She enjoyed volunteering at St. Joseph Hospital as well as New Visions Gallery.  She was known by many as Patches the Clown.

Shirley found much joy in daily life and loved meeting people, many of whom became good friends.  Her energy and upbeat spirit will be greatly missed.

A memorial celebration will take place on Friday, December 22nd, at St. John’s Catholic Church, Marshfield.  Visitation will take place at 9:30 am, with Mass following at 10:30 am.

The family extends a sincere thank you to all of those (too numerous to mention) who were a special part of Shirley’s life and shared in supporting her along the way.

“Peace, Joy & Love” to you, dear sister, aunt and friend!
